In a major development for recruitment processes in the state, the Manipur Legislative Assembly on Monday unanimously passed the Manipur Staff Selection Commission Bill, 2022 (bill number 5 of 2022) along with two other bills.
The other two bills that were passed are the Manipur Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (fourth amendment) Bill, 2022 (bill number 10 of 2022) and The Manipur Land Revenue and Land Reforms (Seventh Amendment) Bill, 2022 (bill number 14 of 2022).
Before passing these bills, Congress MLA Keisham Meghachandra Singh moved consideration of the Manipur Staff Selection Commission Bill. In connection with the bill, he said that passing of The Manipur Staff Selection Commission Bill is highly appreciative. The bill caters recruitment of all state government posts and even autonomous bodies except assembly secretariat.
While stating that the recruitment of staff by Manipur Staff Selection Commission should be free from bias and favouritism, the Congress MLA said that the recruitment of staff for assembly secretariat can be carried out by staff selection commission without affecting the sanctity and dignity of the speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly. As such, the bill should be amended to insert the said suggestion, he added.
Responding to it, leader of the house, N Biren Singh assured that the matter will surely be discussed later.
Biren Singh also approached to amend the tenure of chairman of Manipur Staff Selection Commission from two years to three years and age of chairman from 62 years to 65 years. All the members of the house accepted and finally passed the bill.
