The Manipur Police Control Room on Monday stated that the situation in the state was tense with sporadic incidents of firing, arson and congregation of protesters during the last several hours.
Search operations were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of Churachandpur, Thoubal, Imphal East, Imphal West and Kakching districts and recovered 1 arm and 4 explosives from Imphal East and Thoubal districts, stated a release issued by the Police Control Room.
Movement of 141 vehicles along NH-37 with essential items have been ensured, it stated. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations, and security convoys are provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it mentioned.
A total of 131 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur; both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 1,703 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state, it further stated.
It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumors and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc may be confirmed from the rumor free number 9233522822 of the Central Control room, it stated. Further appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately, it added.
Arson attack at Sanjen Lok
In a fresh arson attack, a farmhouse at Sanjen Lok located 6 km west of Sagolmang Police Station in Imphal East was set ablaze by suspected Kuki militants on Monday.
According to sources, the incident occurred around 4:30 pm. The farmhouse belonged to one 65-year-old, Ngangom Tomba. Upon hearing the information, a team of Sagolmang Police Station rushed and inspected the area. There were no reports of casualties till the time of filing this report.
