Manipur: Security forces destroy bunker, seize arms

As per a statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, police seized one country made pistol, four 36 MMKI hand grenade without detonator, one Chinese Hand Grenade, five Tube Launching, among others.

Security forces on Sunday destroyed a bunker at Old Bijang in Kangpokpi district of Manipur and seized various arms and ammunition during search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

As per a statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, police seized one country made pistol, four 36 MMKI hand grenade without detonator, one Chinese Hand Grenade, five Tube Launching, one Carbine and magazine with 10 live rounds, eight Tear Smoke shell, one Smoke Grenade, one Baofeng Wireless set with batteries and chargers from Khoidum Mamang Leikai area in Kakching district.

It further said that security forces also seized one MA 3 Mk-2 Assault Rifle with Mag and Sling, one 7.62 mm Self Loaded Rifle (SLR) with Mag and Sling, ten live rounds, one Single Barrel Rifle, one Improvised Pumpi, one Amn Pouch, six Jacket OG colour, one pair jungle shoes from Old Bijang in Kangpokpi District. It mentioned that two Pumpi (local made mortars) from Kangvai Village area, Churachandpur District were also recovered during the operation.

The statement also said that the situation in the state was under control. It asserted that movement of 264 and 286 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

A total of 126 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 108 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it maintained.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialling rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
