Bowing to pressure from several students organisations, the state government has ordered the opening of all schools and colleges from Friday while curfew hours have been relaxed from 5 am till 4 pm.
All government educational institutions including state universities along with schools will resume normal classes from Friday as per latest orders issued by respective authorities.
An order issued by the Higher and Technical Education department on Thursday stated that all government educational institutions, and government aided colleges under the state Higher and Technical Education department including State Universities shall resume classes with effect from Friday.
The order issued by the Directorate of Education-Schools stated that normal classes will resume for all schools of the state, government, government aided, private and central Schools, from Friday onwards.
It directed all zonal education officers under the department of Education-Schools, Manipur to inform all concerned under their respective jurisdiction and take up necessary actions accordingly.
Meanwhile, restriction of movement of public outside their residences is lifted for Friday from 5 am to 4 pm for all areas of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts while the same has been lifted from 5 am to 10 am for Kakching district.
This relaxation shall not include any gathering, sit-in-protest, rally etc. without obtaining approval through competent authority, stated the order issued by additional district magistrate, Imphal West K Jadumaní Singh.
It observed that due to the development of law and order in the district, there is a need to relax the restriction of movement to facilitate the public to purchase the essential items including medicines and food items.
However, movement of persons belonging to essential services such as Health, Electricity, CAF and PD, PHED, Telecom, Communication providers, Banking Financial Institution including ATM cash filling, Petrol Pumps, Schools, Colleges, Municipality, Press and Electronic media, functioning of Courts, Child Helpline, Women Helpline, Elder-line and to and fro movement of flight passengers to Airport and Contractor, Worker with valid Airport Entry Permit (AEP) Card shall be exempted from the imposition of curfew after the expiry of the said period of the relaxation, it stated.
The order issued for Imphal East also observed there is a necessity to relax the restriction of movement to facilitate the general public to purchase essential items including medicines and food items, etc.
This relaxation shall, however, not apply to any gathering, large scale movement of persons, sit- in-protests, rally, etc. which is unlawful in nature, it mentioned.
No person shall carry any arms of any kind during the period of relaxation for inciting violence such as sticks, stones, and firearms without a valid License, weapons, or objects of any description, which can be used as offensive weapons, stated the order issued by district magistrate Bishnupur Lourembam Bikram.
Violation or attempt of violation of any kind shall be treated as per standing government instructions and as applicable per law, it stated.
The order issued for Kakching district stated that there are reports of possibility of disturbance to the peace and tranquility of the district.
No persons shall move out of their respective households during the imposition of curfew hours, it said. Schools and Colleges in Kakching district headquarters shall remain closed on Friday and Saturday, it mentioned.
