Residents of Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai and Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai on Thursday demanded a regular supply of potable water through the water pipe system installed by the Water Resource Department.

Speaking to the media on Thursday at Ibudhou Naothingkhong Pakhangba Mantop, Thangmeiband, locals expressed their frustration over the lack of water supply despite the installation of water pipes in every household.

Maibam Samananda Singh, a resident of Thangmeiband Hijam Leikai, stated that the water supply has been irregular since last year.

Previously sourced from Singda dam, the availability of water has dwindled due to ongoing conflicts.

The department claims to provide water for 30 minutes daily, but this is insufficient for the growing population, a problem worsened by the recent cessation of water from the reservoir atop Cheiraoching, he asserted.

As a consequence, residents have resorted to pooling money to purchase water due to the inadequate and unreliable supply from the current source at Chingkhei Ching, he added.

Samananda emphasised the urgent need for action from the Water Supply Department officials and local representatives, including the MLA of Thangmeiband and the Chief Minister.
