In yet another instance highlighting the absence of developmental funds from the state government for infrastructure development, the residents of Dorcas Veng in Churachandpur district in Manipur started rebuilding the Dorcas Road in New Lamka on Saturday through contributions from the denizens.
As per the plan, the road will be 16 feet where WBM was affected and would be black-topped with bitumen with contribution of Rs 500 from each household. And what was very encouraging was that, many denizens volunteered to contribute more than the fixed amount so as to present themself with a reasonable road as the condition had worsened due to the recent rainfall and plying on it was a skill.
Dorcas Road is a major road that is home to a theological college run by EBC while it was also a connecting road to Bungmual and a link between Teddim Road and Tipaimukh Road of Churachandpur district.
The road stretch of about 3 km will be covered in the first phase and the other road connecting different colonies will be made in the second phase, said sources from Dorcas veng which include the Churches, YPA units and the Village Authority who collectively took the decision of rebuilding the road to help themselves in the absence of help from the government.
