Large number of irate womenfolk on Monday took out a ‘Meira’ (Torch) rally from Thangmeiband, Imphal West decrying authorities’ inaction which could result in obliteration of Manipur.

The protestors lambasted both the state and central government for failing to rein in the escalating violent attacks of Kuki terrorists.

The huge number of  protesters took out the rally from THAU ground, Thangmeiband and rallied through several localities in greater Imphal including Khoyathong, Nagamapal, Khwairamband Ema Keithel and Kangla Western gate.

The protestors held posters demanding authorities not to obliterate Manipur and raised slogans demanding stringent action against Kuki terrorists.

The protestors also demanded change in leadership of the unified command and removal of incumbent officials.

The protest rally mainly included ‘Meira Paibis’ from Thangmeiband and its surrounding localities.
Speaking to media on the sidelines of the protest, a protester stated that the people of Manipur are fed up with the neglect of both the state and central forces in ramping up the security measures against Kuki terrorists.

“The violence has dragged on for too long without any concrete actions. This has to stop. Manipur will not be fractured for vested interests of few individuals,” she said.

She stated that the rally was a collective movement to assert and draw the attention of authorities on the crumbling security situation and mounting frustration among the people.

“The frustration has boiled over and the people have had enough of the delay tactics. The people will stand for Manipur if authorities will not,” she said.

She extended condolences to the families of martyrs who sacrificed their lives for a greater cause and maintained that their sacrifice to protect the territory and integrity of Manipur would not end in vain.

“Displaced people have been languishing in relief camps for so long without any certainty of their future. Who will they turn to?” she asked.
No untoward incidents were reported during the protest.
