A large number of irate citizens on Sunday night took out a rally along Tiddim road, decrying the inaction of both the state and central government in reining in the escalating violent attacks by Kuki militants upon the civilian population.

The huge number of  protestors came from various directions of greater Imphal and rallied till Keishampat Junction, Imphal West where they were stopped by the state security force.

The protestors took out protest demonstrations in the middle road stopping traffic movement along the road.

The protestors vandalised a police picket built near Keishampat bridge, Paona Bazar and also pelted stones at the security forces. Following the incident, the police moved in firing tear gas shells and dispersed the mob of protestors.

A protester told the media that the people of Manipur were fed up with the silence of both the state and central forces in tightening the security noose on the Kuki terrorists.

“What are they waiting for? Are they waiting for the Kuki terrorists to rain down with more terrifying attacks on innocent civilians? The situation has turned from bad to worse,” he said.

He stated that the rally was a spontaneous movement of the people to draw the attention of the authorities on the crumbling security situation and mounting frustration among the people.

“We have had enough of their delays. The people will fend the state if they are unable to grasp the issue swiftly,” he said.

He added that the blood spilt in fending the territory of Manipur would be on the hands of the feeble leaders who are too busy protecting their power and authority.

Aside from a protestor fainting, no casualties were reported by the time of filing of this report.
