A public meeting decrying the reported harassment of Totomshana Nongshaba’s children by the police was organised by the Thoubal Apunba Lup (TAL) at Thoubal melaground in Thoubal district on Thursday.
Totomshana’s children were in school uniforms when they were allegedly harassed by the police who were attempting to apprehend Totomshana, as per sources.
Placards which read, ‘The violations on children by the armed policemen is condemned’, ‘We denounce excessive police action’, ‘Punish the cops indulging in crime’, ‘No dictatorial government, Yes democratic governance’ were displayed.
“We mothers are hurt by the violations meted out on Totomshana’s children by the police. We condemn such police brutality,” said a meira paibi who took part in the protest.
“The act of picking on children after failing to apprehend a man is highly destetable. We appeal not to repeat such acts again in the future,” she added.
