Despite the well-intended written statements and heartwarming speeches, the schemes or follow-up actions initiated by the state government have been ineffective in addressing the suffering of the masses, PPCM stated in a release signed by convenor, publicity sub-committee Tongbram (O) Ebemcha on Friday.

If the state government had taken appropriate actions such as providing necessary equipment and improving the infrastructures of medical facilities, the public would not have any sort of apprehension in approaching hospitals or Covid care centres , PPCM stated.

In regard to the statement from the director of AIIMS, Dr Randeep Guleria on June 19 that the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic will arise within six to nine weeks, PPCM also enquired whether the state government has any prior plans to contain it.

Manipur is also lagging behind in the number of people who have been administered Covid vaccines, while the number of positive cases has been on an alarming rise in the state along with a simultaneous increase in fatalities, the committee stated.
Asking politicians not to make elections a priority over the fight against the Pandemic, the committee also demanded the vaccination programme for people above 18 years to be completed before the first week of July.

The state government should ensure that the special hospital for Covid patients at Langthabal starts functioning at the earliest, and the number of CCS in the state should be increased, PPCM demanded adding a public appeal for unity in the battle against the COVID-19 pandemic
