A one-day political convention of the National People’s Party (NPP) was held at Tamenglong as a part of the election campaign to the ensuing 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election.
Before the main function, thousands of voters and vehicles took out rallies from Haipou Jadonang Park till the venue at Mini Stadium Tamenglong Apollo ground where the main campaign was held.
Top NPP leaders, including Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party national President Conrad K Sangma, Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar Singh, NPP Youth front Manipur general secretary Tollen Okram, NPP youth front secretary Seityawor Thokchom, NPP Youth members Gourakishor Bachaspatimaym and Terrick Soram, former ADC leaders and hundreds of supporters attended the one-day political convention of NPP organised by the 53-NPP Tamenglong Mandal and campaigned for NPP candidates of 52- Tamei AC Z Kikhonbou and 53- Tamenglong assembly constituency.

Meghalaya CM and NPP national president Conrad K Sangma highlighted the party's manifesto to the public.
The NPP election manifesto include repeal of AFSPA from Manipur, to formulate a comprehensive and sustainable economic policy for all round economic development of the state, securing agro-based industries, fishery sector, tourism and human resource development, quality education, establish specialised schools for differently-abled children, to set up biodiversity committee, review Loktak Protection Act of 2006, more budget allocation for public healthcare, provide free maternal care package, gender justice, create space for the growth of young entreprenuers, facilitate obtaining GI tags for traditional handloom and handicraft products, and ensuring Minimum Support Price (MSP), among others.

The NPP national president urged all the voters to choose the right candidate who can truly fight for the people and bring more development.
He said, in Manipur a total of 20 candidates are contesting on NPP tickets and expressed hope that all candidates will come out victorious. Sangma also urged all to work harder till the last vote is counted, while adding that the next few days are crucial.
The NPP's campaign ended with singing “we shall overcome”.
