Manipur Police assures of efforts to trace missing man

Manipur Police on Tuesday assured that all out efforts are being made to trace missing Laishram Kamalbabu Singh who went missing at Leimakhong on Monday.

Manipur Police on Tuesday assured that all out efforts are being made to trace missing Laishram Kamalbabu Singh who went missing at Leimakhong on Monday.

According to the latest statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, District Police of Imphal West and Kangpokpi along with army teams under the personal supervision of GOC 57 Mtn Division are making all out efforts in connection with the missing case of one Laishram Kamalbabu Singh, 56 years, son of late Laishram Kumardhan Singh of Gosaipur under Udarbond, Cachar District, Assam, presently residing at Loitang Khunou, Imphal West at Leimakhong on Monday.

It asserted that physical search operations are being carried out in the village of Leimakhong and adjoining areas by the security forces to trace out the missing person, adding that search operations continue.

It said that joint operations were also conducted at Mongbung Meitei, Mongbung Kuki, Balijuri, Kashimpur and Jarolpokpi areas under Jiribam Police station and Jakuradhor Part 1 & 2 and Harinagar areas under Borobekra Police station in Jiribam district.

The statement also mentioned that Manipur Police on Tuesday arrested one Thingbaijam Sushila Devi, 46 years, who was allegedly actively involved in the unruly mob who vandalised houses/ properties of elected members on November 16.

It also mentioned that some unknown persons allegedly abducted a medical officer, Dr Kh Nabakeshore from Langthabel Kunja Awang Leikai on Friday, demanding a ransom and threatening harm if their demands were not met.

Acting swiftly, Manipur Police initiated an operation, which led to the safe rescue of the victim from a farmhouse in Lamdeng under Lamshang Police Station, it said adding that four individuals including a woman allegedly involved in the act were arrested on Sunday.

The arrestees are Wahengbam Ramananda, alias Rousow, alias Luwangamba of KCP (MC) Lalumba; Wahengbam Usharani, alias Piyari, alias Abem; Naoraibam Joyshankar, 39 years and Leichombam Bipin Singh, 32 years, it stated.

It noted that Police recovered various incriminating items from their possession including one 7.65 mm Pistol with magazine; one .32 mm Pistol with magazine and ten .32 Pistol live rounds.

It also said that as a follow up of the said case, Manipur Police arrested another accused person namely, Paonam Shamungou, alias Pintu on Tuesday.

It mentioned that Police further recovered various items from the residence of W Ramananda on Tuesday including one pistol along with one magazine loaded with three rounds of 9mm ammunition; one pistol marked with ‘pistol 7.65 mm (0.32) along with one magazine; one revolver; two carbine magazines; one magazine; twenty-eight rounds of 7.65 ammunition; one round of 7.62 ammunition; four detonators; one .22 rifle along with one magazine and eight soap caps containing suspected heroin No. 4.

It added that investigations are underway to apprehend other accomplices in the case. Manipur Police remain committed to ensuring public safety and urge citizens to report any suspicious activities, it maintained.

It further said that Manipur Police along with CRPF destroyed about 12 acres of poppy plantation in Makhan Village, Kangpokpi District on Tuesday.

While, on Monday, Manipur Police arrested one suspected active cadre of KCP (PWG) namely Wairokpam Naoba Meitei, 34 years of Phoijing Teramakhong from Heibongpokpi Khoiriphaba road near Nambol Khoriphaba, Bishnupur District, it stated.

It was found out that he was involved in monetary demands from the general public and shopkeepers in Nambol area, it stated and mentioned that Police also seized one two-wheeler and one mobile phone from his possession.

The statement further said that the situation in the state was tense but under control. It maintained that search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts.

It mentioned that movement of 367 vehicles along NH-02 with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.

While, a total of 106 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained no one in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it added.

It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialling rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
