Manipur: Peace talk with another group in the pipeline

The process of signing peace talk with KCP could be a step of the Manipur government in restoring law and order situation which had been scattered since May 3 last year.

Five factions of Kangleipak Communist Party, a proscribed underground outfit based in Manipur along with the Manipur government, started the process of peace talk on Thursday, said a reliable source.

The development comes on the eve of the expected coordinated attack of 900 trained Kuki militants from Myanmar to Meitei villages disclosed by the Manipur government in a confidential letter that went viral on social media.

The armed outfit was founded in 1980 in which it has been divided into at least 12 factions.

Reliable sources reported that at least 543 cadres from five different factions of the outfit have started the verification process on Friday at 1st Manipur Rifles and 2nd Manipur Rifles here in Imphal.

It said the verification will be done with 50 individuals each for a day.

Pambei led United National Liberation Front (UNLF-P) was the first underground outfit that signed peace talk with both the state and central government after the May 3 incident.
