Manipur: Over Rs. 1.47 crore settled in Lok Adalat

A total number of 3,023 cases were listed in Sunday’s National Lok Adalat out of which 133 number of cases were taken up and 125 number of cases were settled with total settlement amount of Rs 1,47,27,307.

The 3rd National Lok Adalat for Imphal West and Imphal East districts, Manipur was held on Sunday at the Lamphel Court Complex wherein three benches were constituted for conducting the Lok Adalat.

A total number of 3,023 cases were listed in Sunday’s National Lok Adalat out of which 133 number of cases were taken up and 125 number of cases were settled with total settlement amount of Rs 1,47,27,307.

National Lok Adalat was inspected by justice A Guneshwar Sharma, Judge, High Court of Manipur and justice Golmei Gaiphulshillu, Judge, High Court of Manipur.

While interacting with the media persons, Justice A Guneshwar Sharma stated that in addition to the pending court cases, many disputes which have not yet reached the court i.e., pre-litigation disputes may be referred in the National Lok Adalat. The decrees received after years of litigation is equivalent to any settlement arrived before the National Lok Adalat without any fees or charges for the advocates.

The order passed at the National Lok Adalat is equivalent to civil court decree and the same is final and not appealable.

Justice A Guneshwar Sharma also appealed to the people to make use of National Lok Adalat to resolve their dispute without going before the courts which is often lengthy and expensive.

He also encouraged the public to approach the District Legal Services Authorities and Legal Aid Clinics if they so desire to list their cases in the next coming National Lok Adalat which will be held on December 14, 2024. Further, the Manipur State Legal Services Authority and District Legal Services Authorities may also organize mini Lok Adalat over and above the national calendar if the parties approach them.

Judge  Yumkham Rother, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal West; Binny Ngangom, Judge, Family Court, Manipur and N Lanleima, District & Sessions Judge, Imphal East presided as chairperson of National Lok Adalat and Tonjaoba, advocate; I Lenibala, advocate; Ch Momon Singh, advocate; H Ranabati Devi, advocate; Ch Bimolchandra, advocate; B Supriya Devi, advocate sat as members of the benches of National Lok Adalat held at Lamphel Court Complex.

In-spite of the rescheduling of the 3rd National Lok Adalat from September 14, 2024 to September 22, 2024 due to public curfew, there was a large turn-up in Sunday National Lok Adalat.
