Manipur: One more attempts suicide by hanging at relief camp

One Angom Premkumar alias Bungcha, 33, who was staying at a prefabricated house at Kwakta in Bishnupur district, was found hanging on Saturday.

A few days after a displaced individual was found hanging at a prefrabicated, another man allegedly attempted to commit suicide by hanging at relief camp opened at Takmu Water Sports Complex under Keibul Police Station in Bishnupur district, Manipur around 11 pm on Monday.

Tomba (name changed), was among those who had been displaced from Churachandpur district, following the conflict that erupted in 2023. He had been living hand-to-mouth by doing odd jobs at the relief camps. He has a wife and two children.

Fortunately, other occupants of the relief camp caught him while he was hanging from a ceiling fan at the relief camp. He was immediately rushed to the Community Health Centre in Moirang. He was discharged on Tuesday morning.

It may be recalled that one Angom Premkumar alias Bungcha, 33, who was staying at a prefabricated house at Kwakta in Bishnupur district, was found hanging on Saturday.

His fifth day ritual of the last rites, which is being organised by the occupants of the relief camp, will be held on Wednesday.
