Manipur observes Irawat Day

The observation began with CM Biren leading the other dignitaries and officials in paying the floral tribute.

Manipur observed Jana Neta Hijam Irawat Day, 2023 by paying floral tribute at the leader’s statue installed at Irawat Square, Lilashing Khongnangkhong, Thangmeiband, Imphal on Saturday.

The observation began with CM Biren leading the other dignitaries and officials in paying the floral tribute.

Transport Minister Khasim Vashum, advocate general Lenin Hijam, MLA of Phungyar AC Leishiyo Keishing, chairman, Loktak Development Authority Moirangthem Asnikumar, chief secretary Vineet Joshi, advisor (Security) Kuldiep Singh, Director General of Police Rajiv Singh and senior Government Officials also attended the observation among others.

Thoubal district also observed the 127th birth anniversary of Hijam Irawat in different parts of the district on Saturday.

Irawat Day Observation Committee, Wangjing Tentha observed the day at Khorirol Sanglen near Wangjing new bazar. Retired teachers L Bondash and S Chaoba, Tentha kendra Development Committee advisors S Brajeshor, S Kesho and Md Yaima attended the event as presidium members. People paid floral tributes to the portrait of Irawat and also paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their life during the ongoing conflict.

Pioneer Club, Wangjing Hodamba Maning leikai and Meira paibis of the area also observed the day on the theme “The Interaction program for Indigenous people in Manipur” at the club office. Social activist Haobam Robindro, former pradhan of Wangjing Gram Panchayat Tekcham Ongbi Shurmila and social activist Kshetrimayum Priyobarta attended the event as presidium members.

Village Chiefs of Tangkhul villages Khunbi, Parengtong, Karongthel, Konaitong, Thabi Keithel, Waba Ching, Machi, Heinoukhong, Thamlai, Maryland and Warok also attended the event. Presidium members spoke about the life and works of Irabot during the event. Attendees paid floral tributes to the portrait of Irawat and also paid homage to the martyrs who sacrificed their life during the ongoing conflict.

Heirok Development Club also observed the day at Heirok part (iii) ngarouthel leikai community hall. Students carried out march past events during the observation and floral tributes were paid to the portrait of Hijam Irawat.

Tentha Makha leikai youth development organisation and Tentha Makha leikai Meira Paibi also jointly observed the day.
