Manipur NPF urges government to conduct ADC elections

“Delaying the election is denying Democratic rights of the grassroot people. Restoring the local self-government through election at the earliest will deliver justice to the people,” the Naga People’s Front (NPF), Manipur State Unit stated.

The Naga People’s Front (NPF), Manipur State Unit on Wednesday urged the state government to conduct the election to the six Manipur Hill Area Autonomous District Council at the earliest in the largest interest of the people of the Hill area and as per Cabinet Decision dated June 13, 2024.

NPF-MSU general secretary (Admn) Honreikhui Kashung, reiterated its statement made on August 5, 2024 regarding the ADC Election, which is due since 2020.

It also appreciated the Hill Area Committee (HAC) first sentence recommendation dated October 14, Resolution No 59/2024-(HAC), to the “Government of Manipur to conduct the long pending election to the Autonomous District Council as soon as possible.”

It further opposed any unconstitutional proposal which will hamper the smooth functioning of the Administration. “Delaying the election is denying Democratic rights of the grassroot people. Restoring the local self-government through election at the earliest will deliver justice to the people,” the front stated.

NPF-MSU also decried the proposal for construction of Indo-Myanmar fencing in Naga Area without correcting the traditional boundary, it mentioned.
