Manipur moving forward with blessings of people: CM Biren

Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday inaugurated the Wangkhei Eye Hospital, Wangkhei Andro Parking, Imphal East, and said Manipur is moving forward with the "blessings of the people".

Addressing the function as the chief guest, Biren said that improvement of healthcare does not mean improving only hospitals, but strengthening manpower and improving infrastructures.

Stressing the need for infrastructure and manpower, he said, "We saw this during the recent COVID pandemic. We managed to overcome the pandemic collectively and unitedly".

Acknowledging the importance of infrastructure and manpower, the government is encouraging both private, government and PPP models, and taking up development of infrastructure through government as well as PPP model, N Biren Singh said, highlighting institutes like the Churachandpur Medical College, private medical college under Shija and increment of MBBS seats at JNIMS.

The completion of the ongoing construction of Cancer hospital at JNIMS was targeted by December, but due to the rains it may be opened by February, he said. The OPD has been started, he added.

The chief minister also highlighted other infrastructure developments and said oxygen plants and ICU beds have been installed in all districts, and facilities for 24x7 solar power supplied at three districts (hospitals) in Churachandpur, Chandel and Tamenglong.

Stating that health is everything, Biren stressed that the Chief Minister’s Health for All was implemented and launched so that regular health check up could be taken to the people at their homes.

"The benefit of the scheme is that now we can identify ailments at an early stage before it becomes chronic. We should always remember that prevention is better cure," he said and lauded individuals who come out for the service of the people.

The chief minister also said, "We can reach the top of any field if we are united and cooperative. We have the talents, killing instinct, potential and calibre to reach the very top... Determination and conviction bring success in any field and we cannot reach our goal without struggle".

Today, Manipur is also moving forward with the blessings of the people, he added.

The CM further wished the hospital a bright future and assured all possible assistance to the hospital, which has been empaneled for Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and Manipur Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang services.

The inaugural function was also attended by Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, Minister Health and Family Welfare and IPR Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh, MLA Wangkhei 15-AC Thangjam Arunkumar, founder, Medical Director, president and trustee of Sri Sankaradeva Nethralaya, Guwahati Dr Harsha Bhattacharjee and Wangkhei Eye Hospital Director, Dr Sarungbam Bobby among others.
