Amid various agitations being organized to demand disturbance-free education zones, unknown miscreants fired several rounds at the residence of a private college principal on Tuesday evening.

According to CCTV footage installed at the residence of Wahengbam Nimai, the principal of Kamakhya Pemton College, under the jurisdiction of Nambol Police Station, two unknown miscreants wearing face masks and riding a blue two-wheeler, believed to be an ‘Activa,’ were seen arriving around 5.2 pm.

The pillion rider got down and fired several rounds at Nimai’s residence before fleeing the scene.

During the incident, some of Nimai’s property was found damaged. A team from Nambol Police Station rushed to the spot, and during investigation, around five empty casings suspected to be from a pistol, were recovered near the main gate.

Khoisnam Anil, Advisor of the Young Social Makers’ Club in Lairenjam, mentioned that earlier on July 17, unknown miscreants had placed a bomb at Nimai’s residence. However, no organization had claimed responsibility for the incident.

He added that at the time of the incident, Nimai’s son was studying inside the house. If the bullets had entered the house, his son might have been injured. The area is congested, and similar incidents could occur.

Any misunderstandings should be resolved through negotiation rather than such actions.

Nimai’s family members told the media that these threats might be related to extortion. A case has been registered at Nambol Police Station for further investigation.
