Amid the ongoing conflict in Manipur, a personal secretary of Minister L Sushindro was kidnapped by unknown assailants near his residence in Imphal East at around 8.30 am on Friday.
Following the incident, local club and Meira Paibi of Khurai Chaithabi Leirak staged a sit-in-protest, condemning the kidnapping by unknown persons and demanded the PS be released within 24 hours, safe and sound.
In connection with the protest, Khurai Chaithabi Leirak Meira Paibi secretary T Bimola called for releasing Sarangthem Somorendro, general secretary of Local Club as well as personal secretary to Minister L Sushindro, who was kidnapped in bright day light by unknown persons in gun point.
She warned of a stern reaction by calling a bandh or strike if Somorendro was not released within 24 hours.
“Whatever they want we can talk and settle the matter. It is not a term to kidnap anyone in front of his children and wife”, Bimola said, adding that they are ready for talks.
“Release my husband as soon as possible, till then I will not go home. My children are asking about their father and questioning why their father hasn’t taken a meal. He is diabetic patient. I am worried that his BP might increase”, said Sarangthem Ongbi Deepika, wife of S Somorendro.
Narrating the incident, Deepika said that she, her husband and their children were returning from Torpon at around 8:30 AM when a group of miscreants came in a Bolero and asked them to stop the vehicle near Babu Hotel, Khurai. When their vehicle was stopped, those miscreants pulled out her husband from the vehicle, they had guns and even slapped her husband in front of children, Deepika said.
“The children were crying, appealing to the miscreants to stop beating their father and even requested them not to take their father,” Deepika said, adding that she left the house with her husband and children and that she would not return home with her husband.
