The Mid-Day Meal Workers Union, Manipur has resolved to stop performing their duties as a mark of protest against the non-payment of their honorarium from September 2020 till date.
In a press release issued by the union on Friday, union president Y Indrani Devi said that the union has, on several occasions, been urging the authorities concerned to clear their pending honorarium. However, the authorities failed to translate their demands into action that has left them in lurch many times, she added.
The release stated that there are as many as 6,951 mid-day meal workers in the state. As most of the workers are economically deprived, non-payment of their honorarium for more than one-and-half years had pushed them to suffer a lot, the president stated.
The workers are left with no more patience to further wait for the honorarium to be released. As such, the union resolved to cease their work until and unless their pending honorarium is cleared, it added.
Appealing to all other mid-day mill workers to extend their unity and solidarity in the decision taken by the union, it also urged the school authorities not to mount pressure on mid-day meal workers.
