Manipur logs record seizure worth Rs 170 crore during Assembly election 2022

The Manipur Assembly election 2022, which was marked by widespread violence, witnessed a record seizure worth Rs 170 crore as against about Rs 5 crore in 2017, state CEO Rajesh Agrawal said in Imphal on Wednesday.

Agrawal was speaking at a press briefing held at the state CEO office in Imphal on Wednesday, ahead of the counting of votes of the Assembly elections 2022 to be conducted on Thursday (March 10).

A total cash of Rs 6.14 crore, Rs 143 crore worth drugs and narcotics, Rs 12 crore worth of gold and other precious metals and Rs 7.4 crore worth of other items and freebies were seized, he added.

The election also witnessed a record deposition of licensed arms of 80.98 per cent as against 59.76 per cent in 2017, he said.

The state CEO also said that 7,245 persons were apprehended as against 1,854 in 2017 and 3,117 persons were identified as trouble makers as against 673 in 2017.

The state general election was held in two phases on February 28 and March 5 and repoll was held on March 5 and 8, in 60 constituencies of the state, with 265 candidates in the fray.

The CEO expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders, especially to the voters for their enthusiastic and fearless participation in the electoral process despite the volatile situation across the state and for reposing their faith in the democratic setup.
