Manipur lift Hero Senior Women's National Football title for 21st time

In the final match, Manipur outplayed Railways by 2-1 goals during penalty shootout after the normal time ended with a goalless draw.

Manipur supremacy over women football continues as they lifted the champion title of the 26th Hero Senior Women's National Football Championship 2021 played in Kerala.

In the final match, Manipur outplayed Railways by 2-1 goals during penalty shootout after the normal time ended with a goalless draw. Manipur goalkeeper O Roshni Devi was at her best form, saving three kicks in the penalty.

This is 21 Champion title for Manipur out of the 26 editions of the Championship held so far. Manipur had been Runners Up on four occasions.

Railways team, a force to reckon with as they have many key players from various states of the country had a tiring time, tackling the young girls from Manipur in the match.

A big chunk of the senior members of Manipur are on National duty touring and participating in friendly tournaments for the forthcoming AFC Asian Championship.

As no goal could come forth in the normal time play, extra time was pressed into service, where still it failed to yield any result, thereby kicks from the penalty mark was to decide the game.

In the resultant shootout, Manipur keeper O Roshni Devi had a hectic time under the bar, making three saves from Railways kicker. On two occasions, kicks were re-taken as the Referee ruled fault but Roshni saved them all.

As for Manipur, Babysana Devi and Kiranbala Devi converted their kicks but Sultana shot hit the post and Roja Devi's kick was saved by the keeper, to make 2-1 goals victory for the Champion title.

Manipur goalkeeper O Roshni Devi was awarded the Best Goalkeeper title while I Prameswori Devi as the Most Valuable Player.

AMFA general secretary L Jyotirmoy Roy congratulated the Manipur team on their victory. He said he feels especially proud that young girls in the team gelled well with the seniors, which made the victory possible. "The team under coach Padmashri O Bembem Devi and Goalkeeping coach Ronibala Chanu and others made us feel proud and content with the result".
