The Liangmai Naga Council, Manipur (LNC-M) on Saturday appealed for the unification of the Liangmai tribe residing in the Koubru hill range under a single Assembly Constituency during the upcoming delimitation process.
Highlighting the current division of their populace across five constituencies despite geographical and communal coherence, the LNC-M emphasised the imperative of consolidating their political representation for enhanced efficacy and equitable governance.
Addressing the media at the Manipur Press Club in Imphal, Ch Wisobou, vice president of LNC-M, highlighted the collective aspiration of the indigenous Liangmai community to be placed under one administrative unit.
The initiative, according to Wisobou, aims to empower the Liangmai people politically, enabling them to contribute more substantively to the democratic process while fostering inclusive growth and eradicating discrimination.
Furthermore, he highlighted the pivotal role of infrastructure in advancing socio-economic prospects for the Liangmai community.
Wisobou emphasized the significance of the proposed Leimakhong to Langka PMGSY road, a crucial 23-kilometer lifeline that promises to improve access to essential services such as healthcare, education, and economic opportunities. He urged the government to prioritise the construction of this road, emphasising its transformative impact on the lives of those residing in the remote Koubru hill range.
Expressing gratitude, the LNC-M also extended appreciation to Chief Minister N Biren Singh for his support and commitment to the welfare of the indigenous Liangmai Tribe.
“We are confident in the chief minister’s leadership to steer Manipur towards good governance, peace, and sustainable development,” added Wisobou.
