‘Manipur leading in millet-based products’

Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday expressed happiness that Manipur is leading the way in revolutionizing the cultivation and widespread consumption of millet-based products.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Wednesday expressed happiness that Manipur is leading the way in revolutionizing the cultivation and widespread consumption of millet-based products.

The Chief Minister took to his X account to state the same and also thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his clarion call to all to embrace millets in our diet.

The chief minister went on to say that Manipur is now producing millet-based ready-to-eat products, thereby setting a shining example for the entire nation to follow.

‘This is just the beginning of an incredible journey that promises to transform our agricultural landscape and elevate our communities’, he asserted.

Chief Minister N Biren also shared pictures of the millet-based products made in the state.

Mention may be made that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had urged all to embrace Millets, now called ‘Shri Anna’ as the food of our choice during the G20 Agriculture Meet in 2023. He had also pointed out that India is developing an Institute of Millet Research as a Centre of Excellence for sharing best practices, research and technologies in millets.

The Prime Minister had also said that about 2.5 crore small farmers are directly involved in the production of Millets in the country. It may also be stated that the United Nations, at the behest of the Government of India, declared 2023 as the International Year of Millets in a bid to raise awareness and increase production and consumption of millets.

In a letter to the Gram Pradhans, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also urged to make a holistic health a people-led movement by spreading more awareness about yoga and millet, which he said, help preserve soul health and aid the fight against climate change.
