A woman, alleged to be an active cadre of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), was released on bail by the Special Judge (NIA) with the furnishing of a PR bond of Rs 1 lakh with one like amount surety on Tuesday.
The accused, Henthoibi Moirangthem alias Chan, 41, daughter of Moirangthem Kumar of Uripok Gopalji Leirak, was remanded in police custody till October 19 in connection with an FIR at Lamphel Police Station.
She is the one among seven arrested cadres of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba), who were arrested on the charge of involvement in extortion activities.
In connection with another case, Imphal Police Station had arrested her formally and she was in police custody for three days till October 22.
On Tuesday, Henthoibi was produced before the court with a prayer of police custody till October 28, stating there is strong suspicion of her involvement in kidnapping and wrongful confinement of one lady by KCP (N) in recent times. The prayer mentioned that there are many suspicious videos and photos in her phone which was seized by Lamphel Police Station in another case.
Referring to an incident of hurling of a bomb at the residence of RK Echanthoi, the prayer mentioned that the accused is a close friend of RK Echanthoi, and she knows the exact location of RK Echanthoi’s shop cum house, and she helped to identify the address in the bomb attack.
After a detailed examination of the police papers, the court stated that the case pertaining to kidnapping and wrongful confinement of one lady by KCP(N) is a different matter altogether and has to be dealt with separately, and in no case, can it be considered a ground for seeking further police custody.
The court further observed that the allegations of knowing the location of RK Echanthoi’s shop cum house and assisting in hurling a bomb, are not based on disclosure of her but it seems to be based on the opinion of the investigating officer. Therefore, this cannot also be a ground for seeking further police custody, stated the court.
“Nothing has emerged so far to give rise to the suspicion that the accused has conspired with others in hurling the bomb,” stated the court, while releasing the accused on bail.
