Manipur JD-U to file defamation case against N Bihari

State vice president, JD-U, legal cell Elangbam Amujao said the party will take legal action against N Bihari for misusing the party flag and the name.

Manipur Janata Dal-United (JD-U) secretary general Maisnam Dorendro Singh on Thursday announced that the state party unit will file a defamation case and a demand for compensation from Ningthoujam Bihari for attempting to defame the political party.

N Bihari is not related with the political party and the state unit strongly condemned him for using the party flag while joining the BJP on Wednesday, Dorendro told the media at its state head office located at Keishamthong Hodam Leirak, Imphal.

He said that Bihari was a former national council member of the state JD-U but was expelled from the party on December 20, 2021. The party has replaced him with Ningthoujam Sanjoy as the national council member, he said, adding that the related order for appointment of Sanjoy as the national council member was issued on January 11.

Dorendro said it is seen on social media that JD-U, Khurai unit supports BJP intending candidate Y Susindro. No information was received from the state JD-U officer regarding the support extended to the BJP intending candidate by the party, he said.

He further said that After Bihari was expelled from the party, he submitted his resignation letter to the state JD-U office on Wednesday at about 11 am. The party does not have any obligation against him on joining any political party but his using the party flag and trying to defame the party is strongly condemned, said Dorendro.

Intending candidate of JD-U, Khurai assembly constituency, Toijam Lokendro who is also the vice president of the state unit said that no decision has been taken to support the intending BJP candidate Y Susindro by JD-U, Khurai unit at present. The people who were seen on social media identifying themselves as JD-U workers of Khurai unit are not known to the party, he added.

He said the party will take legal action against Bihari for misusing the party flag and the name. Bihari should pay compensation for using the party flag and a defamation case will be filed against him, he added.
