The total indefinite shutdown imposed by the joint civil organisations of Tousem subdivision along NH-37 since Wednesday has been suspended, following an agreement made between agitators and the district administration.
Speaking to the media, Chramram Segment Voice president Loveson Kamei said that a meeting was held concerning the demand to station Tousem SDO Office at Tousem subdivision Headquarters, for which the indefinite shutdown was imposed.
It was attended by the Deputy Commissioner Tamenglong and the collective group of civil society organisations leaders including Rongmei Naga Council Manipur Tamenglong zone, Zeme Naga Council, Tousem area students organisation, Tousem headquarters student’s union, Zeme Student’s organisation Manipur and Chramram Segment Voice.
The meeting agreed that appropriate authority shall request for permission to use the office building of SDO Tousem and staff quarters, bank building and Police Dept building constructed at Tousem Headquarters (which is under inquiry) in the functioning of SDO office, Bank and Police.
And once approved, government’s approval will be sought for renovation of these buildings.
These shall be fulfilled and the SDO office shall be made fully functional at Tousem Headquarters by November 10, failing which the above CSOs shall be compelled to conduct any form of agitation.
The joint meeting also agreed that an appointment for meeting with the chief minister will be sought to discuss the matter within seven days.
“Following these agreements the indefinite bandh along NH-37 has been suspended temporarily,” Loveson Kamei said.
