Manipur: IDPs return to their homes in Jiribam

A total of 133 people, including 26 men, 45 women and 62 children returned safely to their homes, Manipur Police stated.

In a homecoming event, the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who were staying at Chingdong Leikai Primary School Relief Camp returned to their homes at Mongbung Meitei Village, Jiribam District on Tuesday,

A release issued by the Police Control Room, Manipur Police stated that the homecoming was carried out in a coordinated effort by Jiribam District Administration, Jiribam District Police, CRPF and AR.

A total of 133 people, including 26 men, 45 women and 62 children returned safely to their homes, it stated. It mentioned that the situation in the state was under control during the last 24 hours.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, it stated.

During the search operations,  One 12-Bore Single Barrel Rifle, one MA3 MK-II AK Rifle, six HE- 36 Hand Grenade, two 9mm pistols, two Baofeng Handset with Charger, two Tube Launching, five Tear Smoke Grenades, four Anti-Riot Stun Shells, eight Tear Smoke Shells, five Anti-Riot Cartridges, two Helmets, two Signal Grenades marked as ‘M3 A2’, five BP vests, 42 live ammunition rounds, 26 empty cases, eight detonators, eight 12-Bore Cartridges from Sekmaijin Mamang Leikai, Kakching district, were seized.

On Wednesday, Security Forces arrested two cadres of the proscribed RPF/PLA from Changangel Awang Leikai, Imphal West, it stated.

They are identified as Nongmeikapam Naoton Meitei alias Shanker, 45, Moirangthem Premananda Singh alias Loyangamba, 50, it mentioned.

It stated that they were involved in extortion activities in and around the Imphal area. From their possession, two mobile phones and one wallet were seized, it stated.  

Movement of 132 and 194 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoys are provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it stated.

A total of 102 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 96 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the State, it stated.

It appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulation of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room, it said. It further appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
