Families residing at relief camps for more than 18 months after being displaced from Moreh on Friday staged a sit-in protest at Wangjing- Lamding market in Thoubal district, demanding to let them return home by reconstructing houses at their original place of residence.
Displaced persons from Moreh residing at relief camps opened at Wangjing Kodompokpi Sports Complex, Lamding Higher Secondary School and Rice Research Station, Khangabok took part in the protest.
Placards which read, ‘reconstruct houses at our original residences’, ‘the govt must end the conflict immediately’, ‘let us stay at our own lands’ etc. were displayed by protesters.
A protester said that almost two years have passed since they were displaced and staying at relief camps after May 3, 2023. She questioned for how long they shall remain displaced.
She pleaded with the authorities to let them go back to return to their homes, saying that they chose to starve at their original residences instead of continuing their stay at relief camps.
She further said that they do not wish to stay at the new houses being constructed for them by the state government, demanding to let them return home by reconstructing houses at their original place of residence instead.
