Security forces on Tuesday seized a huge cache of arms and ammunition during search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts of Manipur.
As per a statement from the Manipur Police Control Room, security forces recovered one 5.56 HK Assault Rifle with magazine, one 7.62 Rifle, one Carbine Machine Gun with magazine, three .32 Pistol with magazine, three Lathode Grenades, two Handheld Radio Sets, three live round ammunitions, one Tactical Pouch with belt from between Mongjarong Khunou and Old Nungnang village, Noney district.
It also said that two pumpis with 8 rounds and one single barrel were also recovered from Lailoiphai, Dongjang and Hengken village area in Churchandpur District. It mentioned that one AK-47 Rifle with 02 magazines, one Country made .22 rifle along with magazine, fourteen live round ammunitions, four SBBL gun, one Sig-Sauer pistol along with one magazine, three IED, one suspected IED case Box, one Shot gun belt, one Sling, three Tac phone along with battery, five BPJ, one Combat Dress, Combat T-Shirt, Sleeping Bag, Black carrying bag each, four Empty Pipe, one Black Pipe and 100 gm Suspected Gun Powder were seized during operations at Maojang, Tengnoupal district.
It further said that security forces also recovered one Bullet Proof Jacket, three Hand Grenades (Indian made), nine Live Rounds and one local made Pompi from the hill range of Purum Khullen Village, Kakching District.
The statement also said that Manipur Police arrested a man identified as Md Saruk Khan, 31 years from Imphal West District in possession of 20 soap cases containing suspected Heroin powder weighing a total of 230 grams.
It further mentioned that the situation in the state was under control. It said that movement of 85 and 243 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-02 respectively with essential items have been ensured and strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles.
It added that a total of 125 Nakas/Checkpoints were installed in different districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley and Police detained 77 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.
It further appealed to the general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. It also advised them to confirm any circulation of unfounded videos by dialling rumour-free number - 9233522822 of the Central Control room and to return looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
