Reinforcing his personal dedication to transform valuable lives, Manipur Health Minister Sapam Ranjan on Friday announced his decision to donate his own eyes, urging others to consider the noble act of eye donation.
“Organ donation, particularly eye donation, has the power to transform lives,” asserted Health Minister Dr Sapam Ranjan during the 39th Eye Donation Fortnight observance held at the Hotel Classic Grande in Imphal on Friday.
The event, themed “I Can See Clearly Now,” was jointly organised by the National Programme for Control of Blindness and Visual Impairment (NPCB & VI), National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur, and the Directorate of Health Services.
In his address, Dr Ranjan highlighted the significant role of cataract surgeries and corneal transplants in restoring vision to those affected by blindness.
He highlighted the inauguration of the Manipur State Eye Bank, which is the first of its kind in the state, as a pivotal moment, marking Manipur’s commitment to facilitating corneal donations and transplants.
He set an ambitious goal for the state to restore sight to thousands affected by blindness in the coming years through a series of vision-restoring initiatives.
The event also recognised the invaluable contributions of eye donors and honored individuals and organisations that have actively promoted eye care and donation across Manipur.
The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony for a painting competition and discussions on strategies to further enhance eye care services in the state.
Dr O Sanahanbi Devi director of Health Services and Dr M Dinesh Singh state mission director, NHM Manipur were also witnessed during the programme.
