The Manipur Hawkers’ Association (MHA) on Sunday observed its 37th Annual Function 2021 at Tomchou Higher Secondary School ground (near radio station), Mayang Imphal Thana Awang Leikai, Imphal West.
A release by MHA stated that the function commenced with the prize distribution of State Level Painting Competition organised by MHA on Saturday.
The event was attended by Deputy Speaker Kongkham Robindro Singh as chief guest; Wangkhem Ajit Singh as president; and Konsam Ibotomba Singh as guest of honour, it added.
It asserted that chief guest Kongkham Robindro Singh handed over the Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) card to the MHA members.
Speaking on the occasion, MHA general secretary L Surjit Singh commended the hawkers for their relentless service despite the COVID-19 pandemic, and stated that the hawkers play an important role in developing our society.
Urging Deputy Speaker Kongkham Robindro Singh to provide a pension scheme for hawkers, the association extended appreciation to the state government for providing CMHT card benefits to the hawkers, it mentioned.
Recalling CM N Biren’s promise to establish a permanent office for the association in the Greater Imphal area, the deputy speaker assured his support in the project as well, it mentioned. Stressing on the important roles of the hawkers in our society, he pointed out that the government will aid in the development of the hawker fraternity, it added.
