Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Wednesday sent greetings to the people of the state, especially the members of the teaching community, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, 2024.
The Governor, in his message, said that the day is celebrated across the country in memory of Dr S Radhakrishnan, a renowned educationist, scholar and former President of India on his birth anniversary.
Dr Radhakrishnan recognised the importance of teachers who are the guides and mentors of the youth who are the future pillars of the society, he said. He maintained that every human being has to go through a learning phase and his mentor’s ability will determine the performance of his pupils.
He noted that the traditional Guru-Shishya parampara has yielded to the present system of Schools, Colleges and Universities but the basic principle of imparting knowledge continues to be the same.
The Governor said that teachers are, therefore, the moulders of our future and hence their services need to be acknowledged and also exuded belief that they will continue to strive to provide their services with more dedication and devotion.
Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker, Th Satyabrata Singh, also greeted the teachers and wished them good health and mental well being so as to make their students shine.
The Speaker emphasised the significance of teachers and said that a good teacher can ignite the imagination, inspire hope and instil a love for learning in a child.
He mentioned that Teachers’ Day is celebrated on different days in various countries, adding that in India, teachers’ day is celebrated on September 5 every year, on the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was the second President of India, a recipient of Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award, a staunch educationist, a philosopher and a good student himself.
He said that the day is dedicated to teachers and gurus, with the students honouring the contribution of their teachers and express gratitude for their teachings.
He also urged every student to honour, respect and pay gratitude to their teachers who serve as a mentor, a guru in their effort to realize their fondest dream to come true.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh also extended wishes to the State’s teaching community on the occasion of Teachers’ Day.
In his wishes, the Chief Minister said that Teachers’ Day is observed on September 5 every year in the country on the birth anniversary of Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India.
He extolled the teachers for their immense contributions stating that they unravel talents and demystify complexities, teach us life skills, help us to choose between right and wrong, mentor young minds and guide them to become responsible citizens. He termed it as a noble profession shaping the future of a country.
‘As we celebrate the selflessness, devotion and hard work of the teachers, I salute all teachers of the State teachers in schools, colleges, universities, coaches and mentors, managers, leaders and even mothers for fulfilling their duty with boundless dedication’, CM N Biren said.
Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar Singh has also extended heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the teachers for their unwavering commitment to shaping young minds.
The Minister lauded the dedication, passion, and tireless efforts of the teachers in imparting knowledge, and asserted that the same have a profound impact on the students’ society as a whole.
He called upon all to reflect on the invaluable role teachers play in nurturing future leaders, thinkers, and change-makers, adding that their selfless service inspires generations and contributes significantly to the growth of the nation.
He also encouraged the teachers to inspire, educate, and empower the students with wisdom, compassion, and enthusiasm, all the while pointing out that their role as an educator is pivotal. The Minister further expressed confidence that their influence will leave a lasting legacy.
