Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Wednesday hailed the Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal stating that it has been working towards making Manipur a self-sustained and developed state.
The Governor was speaking at the consultation programme on ‘Bioeconomy from Bioresources: Developing Women Entrepreneurship’ held at the institute on Wednesday, the Raj Bhavan stated in a release.
She said that since its inception, IBSD is engaged in research activities and several outreach programs to fulfil the mission of bioresource development and their sustainable utilization through biotechnological interventions for socio-economic development of the North Eastern Region, it stated.
IBSD is working on integrated studies for documentation of bioresources of Northeast and their scientific validation, value addition so as to promote innovations and to promote bioeconomy with various approaches to fulfil the vision of ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Developed India’, she maintained.
Governor Uikey mentioned that IBSD has organised Industry-Connect programs in many states of the North Eastern region including Manipur, Mizoram, Sikkim, Meghalaya to develop collaboration between industries and the institute, it stated.
She asserted that IBSD is organising several outreach activities for promoting Bioeconomy from Bioresources for farmers, traditional healers, women entrepreneurs of NE region and running several programs to promote local bioresources among school/college students, it added.
The Governor also urged the institute to conduct training programmes for women in the relief camps to facilitate in developing their innovation and entrepreneurship skills and help boost their socio-economic sustainability, it stated.
She further highlighted the role of scientific research institutes like IBSD, CAU, etc. and said that a close coordination is highly needed to ensure viable research innovations towards tapping the huge potential of bioresources in the state, the release stated.
She also distributed candle making materials to women entrepreneurs in the program, it said. Director, IBSD, Professor Pulok Kumar Mukherjee; VC, CAU, Imphal, Anupam Mishra and Secretary, Science and Technology, Hungyo Worshang attended the program, it added.
The governor also flagged off an ambulance, donated by her for the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Senapati District branch at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said the ambulance was donated to the Senapati district branch keeping in view of its necessity and asserted that it will help in reaching out to both the people of Senapati and Kangpokpi districts, the Raj Bhavan stated.
She further lauded IRCS for its humanitarian services and reaching out to the violence affected people in the state and encouraged them to continue such activities, it noted. She added that various relief materials like tarpaulin, mosquito net, blankets, hygiene kits, kitchen set, etc. have been distributed at many relief camps both in the hills and the valley, it mentioned.
She further mentioned her meetings with the President, State Governors and Union Health Minister and said that requests have been made to them to extend all possible assistance to the violence-hit State, it stated. She added that the President accepted her request and 11 goods laden trucks were received as aid, it stated.
Mentioning the recent flood that wreaked havoc in many parts of the State, Governor Uikey acknowledged IRCS’ efforts in reaching out to those affected and further assured to distribute relief materials once it reaches Imphal, it stated. State Secretary of IRCS, A Nabachandra, RS Avel, Member, IRCS State Management Committee, Chairman, IRCS Senapati branch Benjamin Tao and other members of IRCS attended the event, the release added.
