Manipur Governor La Ganesan expressed happiness on learning that the Petroleum Conservation Research Association and the entire oil industry under the guidance of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry, Government of India is observing ‘Saksham’, 2022 from April 11-30.
“The main objective of observing ‘Saksham’ is to spread the message of conservation of petroleum products which has a direct impact on the growth and economy of our country,” he stated in a message issued on Monday.
With development, the consumption of petroleum products is increasing rapidly while the reserves are static, it stated. More consumption also has an impact on the environment due to emission of harmful particles in the atmosphere, it added.
Another issue that has assumed significance is the carbon dioxide emissions while using petroleum products, which not only exacerbate global warming but also have an impact on the environmental degradation, it stated.
Global warming and climate change through anthropometric influence is an issue which is on the top of the global agenda, it mentioned. “I am confident that conservation of petroleum products has assumed significance, as human beings cannot do away with it at the present technology level. This is especially more so for countries like ours which depend on imports,” it added.
Thus, the need of the hour is to conserve petroleum products to the maximum extent, by way of optimum use, use of alternate sources of fuel and by putting into practice every possible fuel saving methods, be it in transport or domestic or other sectors, the governor stated, wishing the observation a grand success.
