Manipur Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Tuesday extended his greetings to the people of the state on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, which is observed across the country on October 2, commemorating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Governor, in his message, asserted that Gandhi propagated and lived the ideals of truth and non-violence and held them as key to peace and prosperity and urged all to follow the teachings of Gandhi and forget the differences for the larger good of all.
He noted that Gandhi had a firm commitment to cleanliness, adding that in a broader context, it is the purity of the soul for becoming better human beings.
He maintained that the Swachh Bharat Mission was launched keeping with Gandhi’s concept of cleanliness and sanitation, and with the aim of keeping the country clean with the participation of all citizens.
‘A befitting way of honouring the great soul is joining the mission wholeheartedly by keeping one’s home and surroundings clean’, the Governor stated.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister N Biren Singh also extended wishes to the people of the State on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
In his wishes, the chief minister said that the nation has also been observing the National Cleanliness Day every year on this day.
He stated that Mahatma Gandhi lived his life in pursuit of the power of truth after which he named his movement ‘Satyagraha’, which implies seeking truth in the spirit of peace and love.
‘During these difficult times faced by our State, the core of Gandhiji’s philosophy of Ahimsa, finds much relevance, with the belief that changes could be achieved through peaceful means: through dialogue and understanding in the face of adversity’, N Biren asserted.
He added that Gandhi Jayanti should make us ponder over his thoughts and principles to enable ourselves to face the challenges that confront us.
