Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey meets NIT and IBSD directors

Governor Uikey lauded the role of the NIT, Manipur in providing higher and quality education to the students and assured to extend necessary support and cooperation for the development of the technical institute,

Director of National Institute of Technology (NIT), Manipur, Professor D Somayajulu along with two others called on Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at the Raj Bhavan in Imphal on Tuesday, wherein they briefed her on various developmental initiatives taken up at the institute.

During the meeting, the team informed the Governor that there are about 1,200 students in the institute, out of which 50 per cent are from Manipur, stated a release from the Governor’s Secretariat.

They highlighted the problems faced by the institute stating that there is no permanent campus. However, steps are underway for establishment of the same at an area of 341 acres, for which a detailed project report (DPR) has been submitted to the Ministry of Education and an expert team has also been constituted, it mentioned.

The expert team will visit and assess the current status of the Institute including the existing infrastructure and the construction work will begin once the project is approved, they said. They further requested the Governor for providing adequate security coverage to the Institute, it added.

Meanwhile, Director, Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal, Professor Pulok Kumar Mukherjee and two officials also called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan and invited her to attend a program slated to be held at the Institute on Wednesday, it mentioned.

The team highlighted the activities initiated by the institute in nurturing the rich biodiversity especially the medicinal plants in the State, it said. The Governor accepted their invitation and also urged the team to carry out training programs on utilisation of medicinal plants, it added.
