Concerning the lack of infrastructures and manpower in the government health centre at Sugnu, Kakching district, the Sugnu Apunba Lup (SAL) on Friday appealed to the state government to look into the matter and take up necessary measures for the wellbeing of the public health. It warned of closing the health centre if the government remains a silent spectator.
The health centre has a total of 40 staff but unfortunately only eight staff with one doctor (Ayush) were found operating at the health centre during an inspection conducted by the volunteers of the SAL on Friday, said SAL in a release.
It also stated that the signboard at the gate of the centre which reads "Sub-district Hospital" and "CHC" has also been causing a big confusion to the public.
During the inspection, it is witnessed that two patients who came to consult a gynaecologist and a dentist left the health centre without any check-up due to unavailability of doctors, the release mentioned.
It said while meeting the MO in-charge of the health centre in the afternoon, he informed that all the complicated treatments are referred to hospitals in Imphal as the centre lacks manpower and medical equipment.
Considering all these facts, people of Sungu are spending more money for medical treatment as they have to travel to hospitals in Imphal, the release pointed out.
Appealing to the state government to look into all the loopholes of the health centre, the release warned of shutting down the health centre if the government remains a silent spectator.
