The Education department of Manipur on Wednesday notified that college students must attend at least 75 per cent of classes to be eligible for Semester Examinations under NEP 2020.
The announcement was made in an office memorandum issued by commissioner H Gyan Prakash to all 51 government and government aided colleges under the higher and technical education department which are affiliated to Manipur University (Central University).
A deliberation was convened on Wednesday in presence of Principals of various colleges for preparation of examination regulations for a four-year degree course under NEP 2020, it stated.
It stated that the deliberation resolved to implement measures to ensure regular attendance of students and teachers. These measures include a daily assembly of about 15-20 minutes of staff and students on all academic days, it mentioned.
Principals are advised to conduct the assemblies to motivate the staff and students including singing the National Anthem, State Song, and activities such as 'Thoughts of the Day' during the assembly, it stated.
The resolution also adopted that students' minimum 75 per cent attendance will be strictly enforced. Students who fail to meet the requirements will not be allowed to fill up the examination forms or apply for scholarships, it stated.
The principal of the colleges are also instructed to monitor teachers’ attendance and reports of any lapses to the Director, University and Higher Education, Manipur, it stated.
The Director, University and Higher Education, Manipur will also form a committee to monitor and ensure the compliance, it added.
