The Manipur government has mandated all two-wheeler riders to wear good quality helmets while riding their vehicles for safety.
Deputy Commissioner/DM, Jiribam, Krishna Kumar, in a notice on Tuesday said that in pursuance of vide letter No DO.No. V-11/12/2024- BIS, dated July 25, 2024 from the additional secretary, Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of India, it has been made mandatory to wear Helmets while driving on the road under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
That statement also stated that it is critical and mandatory to wear good quality and BIS standard Helmets as per the Quality Control Order (QCO) dated June 1, 2021 from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
It further stated that selling any helmet manufactured or sold without having certification under IS 4151:2015 is a clear violation and an offence under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
The manufacturers who have licence with BIS to manufacture Helmets under IS 4151:2015 can be verified on the BIS Care App or via link ‘https://www.services.bis.gov.in/php/BIS_2.0/bisconnect/knowyourstandards/indian_standards/isdetails’, it mentioned.
