Manipur: Government issues parking advisory

‘No parking on roadsides of National, State Highways’

The Transport Department, Government of Manipur, has issued an advisory prohibiting use of public parking on the road sides of National and State Highways, i.e., unauthorized occupation on the National Highways, affecting the free flow of traffic and thereby causing road accidents.

The latest order issued by Transport Director, Nivedita Lairenlakpam on Friday said that the decision to issue such OM was reflected in the decision taken by the TRPC in its meeting held on June 12 in connection with an application for allotment of public parking on the road side of National Highways in front of New Secretariat building.

The statement also mentioned that the Control of National Highways (Land & Traffic) Act, 2002 has empowered the Highway Administrations, i.e., Project Directors of NHAI, General Manager/Deputy General Managers of NHIDCL, Executive Engineers of State Public Works Departments in charge of National Highways or any other National Highways officers empowered by the Central Government under Section 26 and 27 of the Control of National Highways (Land & Traffic) Act, 2002 vide Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Government of India notification SO No 3293(E) dated September 16, 2019 to clear/evict the encroachment on the Highways with the help of District Administration & Police.

The Department, in another notification, also informed all concerned private hospitals, commercial buildings such as shops, shopping complex running within the areas of the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) under Imphal West and Imphal East districts to arrange necessary vehicle parking for the vehicles belonging to the patient parties/visitors/customers at their own premises without disturbing the public places like roadsides.

The same is issued in pursuance of the decision taken under MISC Agenda No 3 of the minutes of the meeting for Traffic Regulation & Parking Committee (TRPC) of Imphal West and Imphal East held under the Chairmanship of Minister (Transport), Manipur cum Chairman, TRPC (IW/IE), Manipur on June 12, it added.
