The Manipur government has canceled the licenses of eight sawmills in various areas of the state, following their failure to shift in allotted industrial estates and renew licenses.
The order issued by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of Forest Forces (HoFF), SS Chhabra on July 20 said the move was taken as the sawmills have not shifted in allotted industrial estates despite repeated instructions and have not renewed licenses as required under the Manipur Wood Based industries (Establishment and Regulation) Rules, 2018.
It stated that the state-level committee on wood-based industries (SLC on WBI) in its meeting held on July 14, 2022, resolved to cancel the licenses if the sawmills on the recommendations vide the letter dated December 9, 2022, of the Chief Conservator of Forests, Central Circle and letter dated November 11, 2021, of the Conservator of Forests, Southern Circle.
The 8 sawmills that have been cancelled are Umakanta Saw Mill (433) Canchipur IE, RK Kiran S/M (281) Nongthombam IE, Gourachand Saw Mill (477) Kakching Khullen IE, Seilen Saw Mill (315) Kangpokpi IE, Ex-servicemen Saw Mill Kangpokpi IE, Ibomcha Saw Mill (392) Thoubal IE, Tomchou Saw Mill (229) Khurkhul IE and Tombi Saw Mill (26) Thinungei IE, it mentioned.
Any persons aggrieved by the order may file an appeal before the state-level committee on WBI within 30 days from the date of the order as provided under Rule No. 10 (2) of the Manipur Wood Based Industries (Establishment and Regulation) Rules, 2018, the order stated.
