The American Oncology Institute at Babina Speciality Hospital, Imphal East on Monday inaugurated a blood centre (bank) where from private hospitals, including bedridden patients in homecare can avail the service.
As treatment of a cancer patient requires a lot of blood transfusion, the hospital has decided to open its blood bank after obtaining necessary license from the concerned authority, said chairman and managing director of Babina Group Th Dhabali while briefing the media at the event.
It is the fourth blood bank opened in Imphal, he said adding the three other blood banks in Imphal are at RIMS, JNIMS and Shija Hospital.
He said as cent per cent of the private hospitals in Manipur do not have blood banks except for Shija, the newly opened blood bank will be able to lend its support in case of any need of blood during treatment by private hospitals.
The cost of blood will be free, however charges for kits, testing and services will be applied as the hospital is legitimately a private funded hospital, he added.
“The door of the blood bank will be open for any volunteer blood donation,” he said, adding that the team of the hospital will also be donating their blood to the bank in a continuous process starting from today.
Following the inauguration of the blood bank around 20 doctors, nurses and staff of the hospital donated their blood.
