The residents of the house had abandoned the house, since the ongoing violence erupted in Manipur.

As per eyewitness account, they saw fire and smoke coming out all of sudden from the old house around 5.30 pm.

The Manipur Fire Service immediately rushed to the spot and attempted to extinguish the fire, while fire service reinforcement teams from Thoubal district joined the operation. With much effort, the firefighters were able to put off the fire after fighting for over an hour.

IGP Range I N Herojit, SP, Imphal West Ksh Shivakanta and other police personnel of Imphal West also came at the site and assisted the fire service in putting off the fire.

Six fire tenders were used in the work to douse the fire.

Fire Service officials told the Imphal Free Press that the house has been abandoned for over a year, and it was difficult to control the fire since the roof is also made of wood and galvanised tin. The source of fire is yet to be ascertained, officials added.

Meanwhile, a release issued by superintendent of police Imphal West stated that teams of Imphal West Police and fire tender vehicles immediately rushed at the spot to douse off fire.

The first floor of the house was partially gutted by the fire, it said, while adding the exact cause of the fire is not known.

It mentioned that a case has been registered at Imphal Police Station for investigation to find out the facts and circumstances leading to the incident including that of suspected short circuits, and efforts are underway to arrest culprits, if any.
