Manipur: Eight IEDs seized in Imphal East

The combined team of Manipur police and central forces are still continuing the seizure of arms, ammunition, explosives and others mostly on a daily basis. Most of the seizures were made from the vulnerable areas of Manipur.

The government as a part of search operation in vulnerable areas in connection with the Manipur crisis seized and diffused eight Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) weighing around 33 kg from Saichang Itham area, Imphal East district of Manipur on Saturday.

The combined team of Manipur police and central forces are still continuing the seizure of arms, ammunition, explosives and others mostly on a daily basis. Most of the seizures were made from the vulnerable areas of Manipur.

In a swift and decisive operation, the Indian Army, in collaboration with Manipur Police, successfully detected and defused eight Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in Saichang Itham area of Imphal East, averting a major tragedy in the region.

Earlier, in various reports on April 13, two Kuki militants were killed in a clash between two armed groups at Itham Moirangpurel, Imphal East district. The incident followed after alleged Kuki militants began raining bullets and bombs from Kamu Saichang towards villages of Tumokhong and Itham Moirangpurel, Imphal East.

Two arms including one AK-47 and a folding INSAS rifle were seized from the two slain by the security forces.

Indian army in its statement, said acting on specific inputs, the Army column swiftly responded to the situation and, with the expertise of the Bomb Disposal Team, neutralized the IEDs, weighing approximately 33 Kgs.

It stated this prompt action saved the lives of farmers and cattle grazers in Moirangpurel and Itham villages of Imphal East and gave a severe blow to the nefarious design of inimical elements planning to undertake subversive activities in the region.

Meanwhile, a CDO team Kakching arrested one active cadre of banned outfit KCP-Taibangnganba group on Saturday around 2.10 am from Tejpur Makha Leikai in relation to extortion from the general public of Kakching and Thoubal area.

According to police, the arrested cadre has been identified as Ningthoujam Ashakumar Meetei alias Abung, 33, son of N. Tomcha Meetei of Laphupat Tera Part-II, at present Tejpur Makha Leikai, Mayenglamjao, Kakching District.

During inquiry, it is revealed that he is working under the command of one s/s Vice Chairman Rajesh alias Malemnganba Meitei of the banned outfit.

The police also seized one Redmi Note 10 Pro, one Nokia Mobile, a cash of Rs 22,000 and four ATM cards.
A case has been registered at Waikhong Police Station for further investigation.
