A driver identified as one Ibochou from Thoubal district died in a road mishap at Thiulon village under Tousem sub-division in Tamenglong district on Monday.
The ill-fated accident happened around 10 am when they were trying to turn their vehicle during work for black topping at Thiulon village. Their truck fell into a deep gorge and the driver died on the spot.
His handyman, identified as Lemba, 20, son of Sashi from Pangei in Khundrakpam assembly constituency sustained serious injuries.
First aid was given by 44 Assam Rifles posted at Azuram village and admitted the injured to District Hospital Duigailong Tamenglong. He was said to be stable and referred to Imphal for further treatment.
Local youths, including Azuram villagers extended help.
