Manipur: Differently abled minor girl raped in Thoubal

The 55-year-old accused remains at large till date.

A differently abled, 11-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by a 55-year-old in Thoubal district. The accused remains at large till date.

The incident came to light when the minor girl went missing from her home at around 1.30 pm on October 1 and family members searched for her everywhere. She was found at the bank of Thoubal river where she identified the alleged rapist as one Thoubalmayum Rafijuddin alias Muthi, 55, son of (L) Mahei of Thoubal Moijing.

The victim’s family searched for the alleged rapist at Thoubal river bank sides but the accused had crossed the river by swimming and had already run off. The victim’s family lodged a complaint before the Thoubal Women Police Station on October 1.

Thoubal Women police have handed over the minor to the Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal. 

Police stated that an FIR has been registered under section 6, POCSO Act and took medical examination where it confirmed aggravated penetrative sexual assault had been committed to the minor. The accused is still at large but they are trying to arrest him as soon as possible, the Police stated.

The victim’s family demand to arrest the culprit as soon as possible and punish him according to the law.
