In an inspiring move, Dr Pheiroijam Herojit, a dentist from Manipur invented a means to take direct measurement of root canal length during root canal treatment (RCT) with an apparatus, and got his unique invention patented as well.
The Government of India has recognised Dr Pheiroijam Herojit’s efforts and awarded a patent to his invention, stated a release.
He is the eldest son of Ph Sarat Singh amadi Ph(O) Sobita Devi of Mahak Kongpal Kongkham Leikai, Imphal East and is currently serving in Composite Hospital, CRPF, Gauhati Assam as Chief Dental Surgeon, rank of Commandant, it stated.
Accurate measurement of root canal length is a crucial step for success of RCT. Clinically at present, there are two methods of root canal length measurement-radiographic method and apex locator, it mentioned.
Radiograph is hazardous to health, whereas accuracy of apex locator is below 80 per cent and is contraindicated in patients with pacemakers, it stated.
The present invention involves use of a special biocompatible dye coated on root canal material capable of changing colors in various pH levels, it mentioned.
In the treatment of root canal his invention not only reduces the chance of failure in treatment but also offers safe and optimal results, it added.
