Manipur: Curfew relaxed in Imphal West

No curfew relaxation in Imphal East district.

Imphal West district magistrate Th Kirankumar on Wednesday issued the latest curfew relaxation timings for the district.

The District Magistrate notified that curfew has been lifted for the district from 5 am to 11 am on Thursday, citing "improvement" in the law and order situation in the district but it prohibits gathering of people for any other purposes other than procurement of essential items, including food and medicine.

The order also notified that all persons belonging to essential services such as health, electricity, PHED, press and electronic media and court will be exempted from the further imposition of curfew after the expiry of the said period of relaxation.

It may be mentioned that the Manipur government had issued an order for restriction of the movement of any person(s) outside their respective residences from 7 pm of May 3 until further order.

In Thoubal district also, curfew has been relaxed for six hours on Thursday i.e., from 5 am-11 am. However, the district magistrate ordered that unauthorized gathering of four or more persons and carrying of arms, sticks, stone and weapons during the curfew relaxation hours.

In Kangpokpi district, curfew has been relaxed from 6 am to 12 pm on Thursday. All existing measures put in place will continue to remain enforced during the curfew relaxation period, District Magistrate Mahesh Chaudhari stated in an order. 

However, there will be no curfew relaxation in Imphal East district, according to the district magistrate.
